An analytically driven investment professional with an unusually polished leadership background, I’ve spent the past six years developing, acquiring, and managing institutional student housing properties with leading firms of varying size and structure. I have worked on deals of every construction type, and evaluated investments with every risk profile. My post-MBA transaction experience now extends to more than thirty U.S. markets with deal values between $20MM and $400MM.

I’ve been fortunate to develop an intricate understanding of student and multifamily markets across the country through deep analysis of hundreds of institutional deals in a variety of investment roles. I’ve executed successful strategies with established firms operating from dramatically different angles, and I can now deploy the most effective mix of investment and development skill to maximize an investment approach. Combined with an authentic leadership style honed over years of high-pressure management experience, I deliver an entirely different level of value for proactive, thoughtful firms requiring members to execute quickly and to collaborate efficiently wearing multiple hats.

Landmark Properties

2024 – 2025

Realco Capital Partners

2019 – 2024

Landmark is the most prominent developer in the student housing space, with more than $15B in AUM and a pipeline almost three times that size. In the Atlanta office, I had the opportunity to work directly under the company’s top developer as we tackled a number of urban mega-deals in Los Angeles, Berkeley, Seattle, Austin and Columbia. I arrived at Landmark with an unusually comprehensive understanding of supply and demand dynamics and market behavior, and was therefore tasked with authoring multiple executive briefs providing analysis and investment strategy recommendations for several West Coast markets. My proactive nature and sourcing comfort enabled me establish a company presence in a half-dozen new markets through exclusive first-look consulting agreements - double the number of agreements produced by any other non-executive. As a two-man team with the most extensive combined experience, my Development Manager and I were also expected to handle the vast majority of stretch projects while managing many of the largest and most complex development deals at the company.

RCP remains a small company despite investing in the institutional student housing space for over a decade. Staying competitive with fraction of employees means constantly having to rotate hats and learn new skills. Success depends on constant learning and attention to detail, and in the ability to remain comfortable being uncomfortable operating within the post-pandemic volatility in real estate and higher education. As the primary POC for all incoming deal traffic and underwriting, I was responsible for the in-depth continued analysis of more than seventy markets and their accompanying university systems nationwide. Developing an expansive and unusually deep understanding of the mechanics influencing each market and the effect even the smallest shift had on relevant capital flows helped to increased the firm’s credibility shape its strategy. That understanding also provided a foundation of expertise for my other responsibilities in investor relations, asset management, transactions, and capital planning.

UNC/Internships

2018

While completing multiple MBA tracks in real estate investments and development, the summer of 2018 presented a unique exploratory opportunity to work next to a successful “unicorn” founder who was beginning his second major venture. The platform used machine learning to plan, optimize, and execute complex business travel itineraries using the suite of existing applications and databases - all in real time. My role was to assist in developing a strategic roadmap to maximize user adoption by understanding the relationship between travel patterns and economic growth from both potential client and potential destination perspectives. The most valuable aspect, however, was time spent shoulder-to-shoulder ideating with a brilliant entrepreneur as he finalized his business strategy and presented his fledgling company to various VC firms. That fall, I was also able to intern part-time at the local Greystone development office, assisting with diligence required to refinance a handful of small multifamily communities in rural areas.

Early Career

2010–2017

My specialty at Equinox was transformation and organizational alignment. I was well-known for understanding the mechanics behind the various revenue streams and building (or rebuilding) the necessary components to ensure long-term growth. My unique background allowed me to influence all aspects of the business firsthand, including teaching staff courses in advanced biological sciences, sales and business strategies, and HR/personnel management when necessary. Above all, our documented success depended on my team’s understanding that Silicon Valley and the San Francisco financial district harbored some of the most affluent and intelligent member concentrations in the world, and that a true brand-exceeding level of expertly articulated physiological understanding was the only way to consistently generate buy-in from clients and ensure long-term growth.

Etc…

My interests outside of work still reflect an upbringing dominated by organized sports and frequent national park excursions. Whenever possible, I spend time exploring the mountains with my three-year-old Rhodesian ridgeback, Cooper. Snowboarding and wakeboarding also continue to be favorite activities when in-season.
